The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been rapidly expanding in its fourth phase and as a result, our newest heroes have taken us on some world-bending journeys so far. From Babylon to the Red Room, The gates of Tao Lo to the seedy underground of Madripoor,
and even into the world of 1950’s sitcoms. Yes, Kevin Feige has quickly tried to diversify the stories being told in his sandbox and with the release of Eternals, it seems that a whole new world is about to be introduced.
Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman may seem like just another one of Marvel’s comedic side characters, however, the post-credit scene and a fleeting reference to a complex family history hints that Harington’s Whitman may be more than just another sidekick. Yes, he is playing the famed Marvel Hero: Black Knight.
Black Knight’s first introduction was in his own solo comic from 1955 which told the story of Marvel’s first medieval knight, however the audible introduction of Mahershela Ali’s Blade in the end credit scene hints that Harington himself won’t be dawning chainmail again. However, I have heard that the soon to be announced Black Knight project will deal with Whitman’s family legacy (hinted at in
Eternals) and how the Ebony Blade he inherits has been passed from generation to generation.

Harington may not partake in the Medieval sequences due to Dane being a 21st-century character, however, every good Medieval tale has a witch, and with the recent announcement of the Agatha Harkness show, we start to get a sense of a new corner evolving in the Marvel Universe.
Wandavision’s final episodes confirmed the presence of Witches in the MCU and judging by Agatha’s age in the Salem Trials flashback it can only be assumed that she could’ve been around during Medieval times. Henceforth, Agatha Harkness or her coven may be a presence in the Black Knight project.
The Agatha series will undoubtedly feature flashbacks throughout time and as we know, the MCU loves to cross franchises together to weave into a larger story and there seems to be no better connection than Medieval knight and witches.
Finally, in the Comics the Ebony Blade was forged from Magic, and judging by its darker design in the post-credit scene – it seems the MCU’s Ebony Blade wasn’t a weapon forged with good intentions.
Perhaps the inclusion of witches in the forthcoming Black Knight project may play a role in the creation of the famed Ebony Blade introduced in the Eternals end credit scene.
