As reported by Deadline, The Shang-Chi and the Legends of The Ten Rings director will soon return to the MCU with him leading a brand new Shang-Chi sequel film as well as a Disney+ series.
Sadly, the MCU’s phase 4 slate seems already full so the theatrical release of the Shang-Chi sequel might have to wait until phase 5 officially starts. The story of the MCU’s brand new hero might not have to wait as long in order to be continued. Indeed, the Destin Daniel Cretton directed Disney+ series could come sooner than expected. As we learned on 2021’s Disney+ day, the Disney+ calendar for marvel releases is much more open so a slot for a new Shang-Chi-centric show could always open.

A sequel for Shang-Chi and The Legends of the Ten Rings was almost a certainty, seeing at how well the movie performed both at the box office and in the eyes of the critics. On the subject of Destin Daniel Cretton’s new MCU projects, here is what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had to say: “Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started”.
After the second Shang-Chi and The Legends of the Ten Rings post-credit scene, many fans started wondering about the future of Xialing, Shang-Chi’s sister, and her future with the Ten Rings organization. A Disney+ show is the perfect opportunity to develop that corner of the expanded Marvel universe. As for ourselves at MCUgeeks, we are always happy for more Shang-Chi in our lives!
