All comic book fans know that The Wasp is one of the founding members of The Avengers
and named the group so. It is no bewilderment than to speculate that this was the intention
of Agents of Shield co-creator, Joss Whedon, to bring forward to modern audiences’
attention.
The release of The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
shone a behind-the-scenes light on the terrifically joyous film, The Avengers. The book
reports that the main villain was primarily focused on Zeke Stane (Obidiah’s son). A
continuation of the consequences brought about in Iron Man evidently had roots planted
deep in Marvel Studios’ story building.
In pre-production of The Avengers, Whedon originally had plans of Zooey Deschanel
assigning the role of the miniature heroine, as there was an uncertainty of Scarlett
Johansson’s availability to reprise her role as the Iron Man sequel breakout-star, Black
Widow. The script was re-written for The Wasps inclusion and consequently became the
“funniest character in the whole movie” - according to producer Jeremy Latcham.
Bestowing from the book, it seems like Whedon delved a little too deep into The Wasps
variation of The Avengers:
I thought, hold on, we could do The Wasp Then I fell in love with that. But we did get
Scarlett, and then I realized I had written this entire movie about The Wasp.” – Joss Whedon
Ultimately, these plans fell through, and in 2015, the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought
about The Wasps delayed debut, appearing as a supporting character against Paul Rudd, in
Ant-Man.
Although the risks Evangeline Lilly’s The Wasp has faced in the MCU have not
been avengers-level threats, it seems likely that we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of her
addition in a 2023 blockbuster, Ant-Man, and The Wasp: Quantumania.
Until we get an alternative earth Antman and the Wasp, Evangeline Lily will have to do! See Ant-Man And The Wasp Quantumania in cinema 2023!
